Family & Staff Coaching

Family and staff coaching is provided in home and at the workplace to address the following goals:

  • Education: Explain what happens to the person as they age and how the body and mind change. Delving into common diseases and dementia symptoms to inform those working with the older adult to create empathy and understanding.

  • Cueing into specific needs: Coaching helps care partners understand other’s body language and cues that may not be apparent due to inability of the older adult to recall words or make their needs known. Taking the time to learn about an individual and their preferences, including medical, dietary, or social needs can improve everyone’s experience.

  • Improved communication: Coaching helps family members and staff members develop appropriate spoken and body language to improve communication with the older adult who may be experiencing symptoms of dementia and cannot make their needs known.

  • More effective caregiving: With improved communication and a better understanding of the older individuals challenges, needs can be constantly reassessed; family and staff members can provide more effective caregiving; which helps the older person stay healthier and more comfortable while making the role of caregiver easier.

  • Reduced stress: Caring for an older adult can be stressful for all care partners. Coaching offers strategies for managing challenging behavior lessening the stress of the situation for them and the person they care for. Understanding the importance of self-care and establishing boundaries to avoiding burnout, which can ultimately lead to better care for the older individual.

  • Improved relationships: Through increased understanding, establishing boundaries and having the technique needed to manage challenging situations, we create a positive and supportive environment for the older adult.

Overall, family and staff coaching can be a valuable tool for ensuring that older individuals receive the best possible care and support from those around them.
